March 23, 2020 Dear Weldon Valley School community members, The Weldon Valley RE-20J Board of Education met Friday evening to address the COVID-19 pandemic. As anyone could probably guess, these are extremely challenging times for public education. Our goal remains the same regardless of the situation. We want to do the very best we can to support and educate our students. Teachers and staff will start Monday, March 23 working to deliver learning on-line, where appropriate. Our hope is that we will be up and running by mid week. At this time, we continue to seek out students and families that need WiFi and/or computers or chrome books. In cases where we have no choice or where it is more appropriate, we will deliver learning packets to our students. School lunches will continue for those students that wish to receive them. Our plan is to take telephone orders between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and deliver them to points within the District for pick-up around noon. In those cases where parents work and won’t be able to pick up the lunches we will deliver them to the residence. Lunch prices will remain the same and those students who receive free or reduced price lunches will continue to do so. Events at the school have been canceled or delayed until April 17. Hopefully, restrictions will be lifted after that date. Regardless, if at all possible, we will reschedule important student events. Our students deserve the experience that school events and activities offer. Please check our website, www.weldonvalley.org, our Weldon Valley phone app, the Weldon Valley facebook page and @WeldonValleySD our twitter feed frequently. We will be posting instructions and information that will help answer questions. We invite parents to call with questions. Communication will be extremely important during this crisis. Needless to say, we are counting on support from students, parents and community members. I’ve witnessed challenging times at Weldon Valley in the past and in every case we worked through those times successfully. This will be no different. When this is all over we will be able to look back and realize with proof that Weldon Valley is a special place with outstanding dedicated people who are willing to work together to overcome any adversity that presents itself. According to the Macmillan dictionary blog, today the word warrior is frequently used to describe a person who is very strong and doesn’t give up easily. That’s us! We are the Weldon Valley Warriors! Sincerely, Bob Petterson

March 19, 2020 Dear Warrior Family: Weldon Valley School District continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and is in close contact with the Morgan County Emergency Manager, the Northeast Colorado Health Department and the Colorado Department of Education. Out of an abundance of caution and to allow time for the situation to stabilize, Governor Polis has closed all schools in Colorado until April 17th. There is 1 confirmed case of COVID-19 in Morgan County currently, we want to practice the recommended social distancing and avoid large gatherings of people. Practicing good hygiene and staying home when ill are simple actions that empower us all to help protect our most vulnerable friends and family (the elderly and those with underlying health conditions). If you feel like you or a family member have symptoms (fever, cough, respiratory illness) please stay home and call your primary care provider for guidance. We also want to help dispel rumors and fear by providing the following link to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which has the most up to date information. https://www.cdc.gov Another great resource is the Colorado Help Line. Call 303-389-1687 or 877-462-2911 to talk to a real person. You can also email COHELP@RMPDC.org for answers in English and Spanish. Together we can help ensure the health and safety of our community.
